We were able to spend Christmas this year in NW Louisiana with Bruce's family. Unfortunately, our brother-in-law was ill and we were not able to visit with their family in person but we did video as we were able. For those of us that could visit, we played a lot of games and ate A LOT of food. It was a wonderful week together.

Christmas visit to NOLA
Since two of the kids were born in NOLA we have tried to be more intentional about spending some time there when we can. This Christmas as we traveled to NW Louisiana we took the time to make a stop. We arrived right before dinner and walked over to Cafe Maspero. We like to revisit this restaurant because it's where Bruce and I went on our first date. The kids enjoyed it and it was quiet since the Saints were playing. After dinner we headed to the Cafe du Monde and enjoyed some beignets and hot chocolate. We enjoyed some Christmas lights on the walk back to the hotel. In the morning we went to Camellia Grill and then headed on to Shreveport. It was a quick stop in NOLA but a very yummy one.

Deck the Halls '16
Well, it's been a year since I've blogged. That's crazy! It truly seems like forever ago. I hope to go back and fill in the last year with some of our pics and memories. Some of you may have missed us, some of you didn't even know we had a blog, but we like to keep it, if only for us to stroll down memory lane every once in a while.
So, we spent the last week on the Eastern Shore of Virginia where Erin grew up. Thanksgiving with the whole family was great, chaos at times, but great to be together. Our kids REALLY enjoy time with cousins and they don't get it often so it was a joy to watch them together.
Returning home to Ocala everyone was excited to decorate for Christmas. We were able to bring a few of our special Christmas decorations back to the states with us. We have 3 nativities, our tree ornaments, Jesse Tree ornaments, and some figurines. A few of our local friends surprised us with a tree and lights before Thanksgiving (God spoils us) so we were ready to go.
As I fluffed the tree today my mind went back over the past 5 years and I was reminded of the privilege we had to decorate our home with Central Asian friends, mostly college aged, who had never decorated a home for Christmas. They hadn't grown up in homes that celebrated the birth of Christ but Lord willing as they get married and grow family theirs will. We have many precious memories from those holidays spent far from home. I prayed for them as I fluffed my tree. And I pray now that this Christmas season we will share our home with those in our community that need to hear the story of our God, who came to Earth as a baby to save us from sin. Our location is VERY different but our purpose is exactly the same.

Deck the Halls '15
We decorated the house the weekend after Thanksgiving. Jodie brought us some supplies from the states to make sausage balls and peanut butter blossoms. That was wonderful! We all assumed our traditional roles. Bruce pulled out all the decorations, set up and fluffed the tree, and put the lights on. I handed out the ornaments and the kids put them all on the tree. Then I evened out all the ornaments since the kids can't reach the top ;) Lastly Bruce placed the star (I'm not sure what that thing is but we will call it a star.) Fun times with family at the most wonderful time of the year.

Christmas Week
We have had such a wonderful week. Bruce's last day of work was Friday, Dec 17 so he's been at home and we are all happier when Daddy's home!
Monday morning Lillian and I finally got to the movies to see Tangled. We've been trying to do this for weeks. It ended up being perfect though because Gramma Joy was able to meet us. We also ran into some friends from church. Lillian has been to the movies a couple times with Bruce but this was my first time with Lillian at the theatre. We had such a great time. Lillian is quite dramatic though, she hid her face and screamed at mean "mother", she also cried really hard at the end when she thought Rapunzel's prince had died. I've never seen her get so involved in a movie! :)
Tuesday Lillian and I went to the Happy Birthday Jesus party at the Daffern's house. There were children everywhere and I think it reached 80 degrees that day. We had fun playing outside and celebrating the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus. I also had the thrill of introducing the ladies to sweet potato biscuits. yummy..an Eastern Shore tradition.
Wednesday the whole family went to Longview, TX to have lunch with Bruce's mother's family. We don't get to see his cousins much so it was great to spend some time with them. That evening Bruce and I joined 5 other likeminded brothers and sisters for dinner. It was a wonderful time of encouragement from people who have been where we are going!
Thursday we spent the day at Bruce's parents. It was my first time to see the Puckitts! Lillian had a wonderful time playing with her sisters (cousins) and eating as many sweets as Gramma would give her. Hopefully there will be no long term damage!
